Air fryer rotisserie recipes take your favorite roasted chicken or vegetables and infuse them with flavor while ensuring they come out juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Using an air fryer simulates the rotisserie cooking method, which means you get perfectly cooked meals in significantly less time and without all the oil that traditional frying requires. So whether you’re cooking a whole chicken or a medley of vegetables, this guide will help you nail it every time.

Ingredients

  • For the Air Fryer Rotisserie Chicken:
  • 1 whole chicken about 3–4 lbs
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme or your herb of choice
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 lemon halved (optional)
  • For variations and substitutions:
  • Olive oil can be substituted with melted butter for a richer flavor.
  • You can mix and match herbs and spices to suit your taste – try rosemary or cumin!
  • A whole chicken can be replaced with chicken pieces like thighs legs, or wings.

Method

  1. Prep the Chicken: Start by patting the chicken dry with paper towels to ensure a crispy skin. This step is crucial!
  2. Season the Chicken: In a bowl, mix together the olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, thyme, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Rub the mixture all over the chicken, including the cavity. If you're using lemon, place the lemon halves inside the cavity for extra flavor.
  3. Preheat the Air Fryer: Many air fryers recommend preheating; set yours to 360°F (182°C) for about 5 minutes.
  4. Cook the Chicken: Place the chicken in the air fryer basket, breast side down, and cook for 20 minutes. Flip the chicken over and cook for another 20 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).

  5. Rest the Chicken: It may be tempting to cut into it right away, but let it rest for 10 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute, keeping your chicken juicy!
  6. Serve and Enjoy: Carve the chicken and serve it alongside roasted vegetables or a fresh salad. You might just discover it's your new favourite weeknight meal!

Notes

Adjust cooking times based on the size of your chicken.
Cooking smaller chicken or chicken pieces may take less time, keep an eye on them to prevent overcooking.
Don't overcrowd the fryer; it can prevent the chicken from cooking evenly.
